Do You have a Favorite Deanna Hoskins “Deanna-ism”?
I have had the pleasure of working with Deanna Hoskins for two years now. When we first met, her warmth and passion were immediately evident. Her signature sumptuous designs are created around her love of guiding clients through the discovery of their own unique style. The quality, beauty and attention to detail she places into her interior design projects are seen throughout the rest of her life as well. It is apparent that the deep relationships with family, friends, clients, co-workers and vendors are what she treasures most. Working with Deanna is quite fun, as she is always happy to share her wealth of knowledge and experience, and in her own unique way. Over our time together I have collected phrases that I call “Deanna-isms” – quirky little idioms that suit our discussion topic perfectly! Here are some of my favorites:
Deanna-isms
When choosing an interior designer, one considers experience, talent and reputation. However, possibly the most important factor is connection – finding the right person to help you achieve your goals for your home or office. Building these relationships is where Deanna truly shines. Just ask anyone lucky enough to work with her!

Meet Interior Designer Deanna Hoskins
Deanna’s foray into interior design started when she was seven years old. In a sandbox under a large tree in the back yard of her Indianapolis home, Deanna spent her days drawing child-sized houses in the sand. She would place furniture within the lines and make her siblings “visit”. Art had always been part of her world too, as her mother, grandmother, uncle and cousin were all artists in some fashion. Through summer classes at the Herron School as well as private studies, she honed her artistic talents. Marrying her two passions by becoming an interior designer was a natural progression.
Deanna began her career at Kittle’s Design Studio, helping them build their interior design services. After a few years at a small interior design firm in Nobelsville and a high-end furniture store, she returned to Kittle’s. There she grew the Design Studio to 12 designers and expanded the high-end furniture lines. She also created and presented Kittle’s interior design seminars for the public.
In 1997, Deanna felt it was time to go out on her own. With the support of her family, she signed a lease on a building, put up a sign, and Hoskins Interior Design was born.
Deanna’s approach to interior design begins with her love of art, color and making things beautiful. According to Deanna, “Form must follow function, meaning a design, piece of furniture, or material must first work well, then be beautiful.” Her designs are meant to last 10-15 years, so quality is behind every element. Making the investment in the bones of the design – quality materials, furniture and finishes – is the key to enjoying your space for many years. “It is what is underneath that counts,” says Deanna. “Just like people.”
Creating distinctive interior spaces has long been Deanna’s specialty, and many of her clients have returned again and again. Her warm demeanor and commitment to quality are evident the moment one enters Hoskins Interior Design. Deanna has created a team of talented professionals, including her daughter-in-law, interior designer Kathy Hoskins, to give clients beautiful, personalized spaces.
