The ambient natural light we get from windows can be replaced by canned ceiling lighting at night.  Reading or work spaces need focused task lighting. Small lights can be strategically placed to highlight a particular feature of a home, like a niche or special artwork. Finally, illuminating shadows with options like undercabinet lighting or uplights can brighten a space.
