Sometimes we run across interior design issues stemming from how a home was originally built. Whether from an oversight by the architect, builder or homeowner, or from a structural requirement, it is up to us to overcome these shortcomings. In the case of the bedroom pictured above, the windows on either side of the bed ended up a bit short for the room’s height. The inappropriate scale ended up making the room look off balance. To counter this issue, we designed window treatments that made the windows appear much taller than they were. We brought the drapes up to the crown molding, and had them touch the floor, accenting the natural height of the room. We then added a stationary roman shade to cover the top of the window and the wall area above. Now the windows looks perfectly scaled to the rest of the space.
