Perhaps due to the tiny house craze that has emerged over the past few years, recent interior design trends include designing for smaller spaces. Here in Indianapolis, we have many clients downsizing from their family executive home into less square footage via a single family home or a condo. Living in smaller quarters does not mean you have to give up completely the functionality you had in your larger space. You may just have to adjust what it looks like. We had a client who downsized into a lovely condo in Downtown Indianapolis. They did not need a formal dining space, however, they wanted to be able to have dinner parties when the mood struck them. A space adjacent to the kitchen was turned into an everyday seating area with an upholstered bench and side tables. However, we also designed a custom piece that would serve as a flip-top dining table for this space when they wanted to entertain, and as a living room sofa table when it was just the two of them. Two ottomans fulfill multiple uses as well – as additional seating at either the dining table or in the living room.
There is no need to sacrifice functionality when you move to a smaller space. Good planning and creative solutions can make your new home suit your desired lifestyle perfectly. Let us know if we can be of any help in your next design project. Send us an email, or give us a call at 317-253-8986.
