Our Interior Design Inspiration: Persian Rugs

Persian rugs

The quality and craftsmanship found in semi-antique Persian rugs offer value for your interior design investment. Since newer floor coverings of this grade can come with hefty price tags, we are always excited when we run across the perfect rug for our clients. We found the piece pictured above at Fine Estate Art & Rugs here in Indianapolis for inclusion in a master bathroom remodel. Our clients’ home has a lovely rustic transitional design, and we have continued that scheme into this project. The patina-rich colors of the rug will be the perfect complement to the slate flooring, medium brown cabinets topped in a warm grey quartz, and neutral wall color. Adding this Persian rug to the master bathroom design not only brings a surprising element to the space, it also offers the softness needed in a room filled with hard surfaces.

Our semi-antique rug was crafted in Hamadan, one of the world’s oldest cities and known as a center for trading in carpets made in the hundreds of nearby towns and villages. Hamadan rugs are known for their quality and beauty, particularly those made before the 1960s when better quality wool and dyes were used. While our clients master bathroom will be filled with new materials and technology, this bit of history will add a richness and beauty that only antiques can offer.
