Our Interior Design Inspiration: Cohesive Design

Living Room Fireplace

If you are a regular reader of our blog, you know that a central theme within our philosophy is cohesive design. Every item in a space, from the architectural details and furniture to the accessories and finishes, needs to make sense with each other. The project pictured above is a good example of this technique. Our client is an art collector, and wanted one of her favorite pieces to be a main focal point in her open concept family room. We placed the piece above the architectural focal point in the space, the fireplace, and then added other design elements to balance the colors of the art. The varying shades of blue, green and red within the piece are brought throughout the rest of the space in the couch, the pillows, the detailing on the chairs, the accessories and even the window treatment in the adjacent kitchen. The light, crisp paint colors and clean lines of her transitional-styled home provide the perfect backdrop for the colorful elements in the space. How have you created a cohesive design in your home?
