Should you buy a new home and move farther away from the area you and your family love, or choose to stay and do a home remodel on the one you own?
This is the question so many of our clients must ask themselves. We have found that many are making the decision to stay and invest in the home they own by remodeling to create more functional spaces which support the way they are living in them.
This is one such story. We began working with these long-time clients many years ago, and have been working together to update the home one area at a time.
Today I’m sharing the before and after story of our most recent endeavor…
The Before: A Home in Need of Love
It was time for the master suite to receive a little love! It was lacking style and personality, but was not a priority until now. My clients are empty nesters that have spent their time and energy raising a family. The time had come for a project just for the two of them!
The Goals: A Plan in the Making
Our clients love to travel to Colorado and love everything about mountain living. They especially love the rustic style of the Rockies. As we progressed through the different areas of the house, we knew we had to add rustic elements and design in this home remodel.

The homeowners wanted to add a fireplace to the bedroom, along with new windows, wood beams, and a new entrance to the master bath.

A total gut was needed for the bath in order to remove the existing spa tub and add a large and beautiful shower.

We also determined that the office between the bath and the closet as well as the walk-in closet were in need of renovations as well.

The Process: Behind the Scenes of a Home Makeover
After extensive interviews about the functionality they hoped to achieve through the remodel, as well as the design aesthetic they hoped to instill, we proposed a design for approval, taking many of their ideas and adding our expertise to elevate the design.
We teamed up with a remodeler, Steve Gray Renovations, to do the work. We all met frequently for coordination meetings to communicate information and address questions and concerns along the way.
The After: A Rustic & Radiant Finished Home
The end result of this project was one of the high points of 2020 for our team!

The addition of the fireplace and ceiling beams took this master bedroom to a new level…so cozy, with a much more rustic feel. It looks like a luxury mountain retreat!

Custom cabinetry in the bathroom, office, and closet add features that our clients requested to improve the storage in these spaces. The office space now looks crisp, clean, and inviting.

Natural slate flooring, warm dark wood grain, heavy iron cabinet pulls, and accessories, like a concrete sink, all add to the rustic vibe.

Post-renovation, the once-crowded closet even has room for an adorable window seat. This whole master suite makeover is a dream come true.
The Transformation: From Worn Out to Wonderful
Our clients were thrilled to see their dream space realized. We utilized their beautiful western art collection to accessorize and finish out the space. Custom drapery added warmth and softness to the master bedroom. And who WOULDN’T love a beautiful fireplace for reading a good book on a cold night?
Most of all, I think they appreciate the thoughtful and gorgeous details that elevate the design.
A project like this can only happen with a good deal of planning and attention to detail. What would your inspiration be for YOUR dream space?
