There is a new interior design trend emerging for the home – clean, modern lines. We are seeing a move away from transitional design, which was exemplified by an updated traditional style, toward a more modern look. There are three sub-trends within this minimalist approach to design: modern rustic, modern farmhouse and mid-century modern.
Modern Rustic adds natural materials to clean lines, bringing something from nature into the design scheme. We are using materials like live edge, stone and even petrified wood for countertops, accessories and architectural detailing.
Modern Farmhouse is a minimalistic version of the old-world look. Nods to previous times like farmhouse sinks and mullioned cabinetry balance out the hard lines. The clutter we often associate with previous times is gone, however, in favor of simplicity.
Mid-Century Modern design is making a comeback as well, particularly in furniture design. The emphasis on simple lines, wood elements and slimmer scale fit well into the new minimalist design trend.
